This sport would be fun if it wasn't for all the running...

Race morning.

So from the other day here is the finished
weight.  The rust colored piece was
clear when it went in.

So I think the 5k this morning was really a 5.5k or 6k.  According to my GPS (which is not always accurate) I went 3.66 miles.  Which for me was ok, it doesn't hurt to get a little extra distance in.  A late starting event, the weather was beautiful, the course "mostly" flat.  The word flat is all relative in Columbia.  And I wasn't last which is always the goal.  Even better one of my co-workers, Sue, won for overall female faculty/staff.

Paperweights

Watching
It's hot!

Mine.  I call it "Giving Up"
David and I went to One Eared Cow Glass tonight.  They are celebrating their 20th anniversary this year and had a drop-in tonight which included making paperweights.  I kept trying to create a pattern or design that I liked and it was not happening.  So I just threw all of my glass into the mold.  And I think it looked good.  It was very cool, as always, to see them work.  The weights will be ready on Saturday so I will prolly stop in and pick it up on the way back from the race.  It will be my treat for finishing.  I just need to keep my blinders on when I go into the studio because the store is full of amazing stuff that I need in my apartment.

THIS is why I love SC

The Cherry Trees starting
to bloom
It's February and it was in the mid-70's.  And I wanted to make good use of it (as it will be warm for a week then back in the 40's/50's for a week, lather, rinse, and repeat so everyone ends up sick).  I started out slow today, even slower than usual, since I twisted my ankle/pulled a calf muscle on Saturday.  I was walking back to work and just tripped over my own feet and went down.  Though later it looked like there was something on the ground where I fell.  So maybe it wasn't all me.  I quickly jumped back up and reassured the concerned teens around me that I was ok and then went straight back to the stockroom and took a few minutes (ok several) to collect myself and make sure I hadn't really gotten hurt.  Well, I could walk and there was no swelling so I took it as a good sign but Sunday morning my calf said NO to going on the group run.  This really did upset me since I haven't been able to see these people in awhile.  Tonight I tried to go jogging again and while it still twinged a little at first I did make it 3 miles.  Which is good since I have a 5k this weekend.

Can't I just order one?

Good ol' Life Lesson #22

I mean they have mail order brides.  So recently when I was out to lunch I overheard some people I know slightly talking and it made me go WTH.  This person, were they female, would be the 'Crazy Cat Lady', so I will be referring to him as CCD for crazy cat dude.  Well, CCD was talking about dating and I will admit to being a small person and thinking 'really you're dating and I am not?'  (And beyond the whole girl/boy thing I do realize CCD and I prolly have different standard levels and all but still.)  And in thinking about it I realized between work, work, class, work, gym/exercise, and groups I am involved in (all of which are women only), when do I have time to meet anyone? My next thought was I might need some help.  So I am registering with a dating site.  We'll see how this goes.  Kinda nervous but I know (or know of) several couples who have met though this particular one.  Though I will also admit to being scared that I would get the response back that there was no one out there for me (which I know has happened to some people- gulp/eep!)  So fingers crossed and I just need to remember TLC's Life Lesson #22: Dating is awkward, but so is becoming the crazy cat lady...

Philosophical question

If you are so pale that you are almost translucent to you really exist?  I was flipping through a magazine and there was a pull out makeup scale (see picture).  Well for fun I started playing with it (what? I was bored) only to find out it is in fact true, I am the whitest of the white.  In fact I could be an understudy for Snow White.  Which is sad because I love the sun.  We are like starcrossed lovers (truth- because the sun is in fact a star).  A few years ago I had a report come back at the doctors that suggested tanning beds and beaches were more like frienemies than the best friends I thought they were.  But I still miss them so...

It's nacho baby...

Oh how I needed you today...
you and the brownine a la mode

Today was a MONDAY in the worst way.  Murphy's Law was in effect today.  Very little went right.  Luckily I had dinner with the guys which made it all better... along with the margarita.  We went out and had a very nice dinner.  The restaurant has a special Valentine's Day menu so we had a little fun creating an anti-Valentine's day menu (see title) along with a few others.  Valentine's day is always funny to me, while I don't fall into the 'commercial holiday' category I also believe you should show how much you care about someone year round so being single today really doesn't phase me.  However, I am very lucky I had three amazing dates tonight who have made the day end on a high note.  Hold for a moment while I run and knock on wood since there are still a few more hours to go.
So due to the flash some of us look like
we may be missing our souls.  We
normally try and keep that on the dl.

First Annual Columbia Area Phi Mu Alumnae Chapter Wine Tasting Fundraiser for CMN

Whoa that was a mouthful!  We had a great time tonight at this event.  Wonderful people and wonderful wines all to raise money for a wonderful cause. A few pictures below with more to come.  I think the title of the post is longer than this entry. :)

I don't think I forgot anything...

Some great auction items!
So after work today I had some stuff to do
Class: Check
Pick up donations:  Cellar on Greene: Check
 Columbia Blowfish: Check
Quick 2+ mile jog: Check
LLS Mud Run website: Check
Homework: ... well I'll get to it :)
I am getting my Mud Run website together and it will be up just as soon as I have a full team.  But in the mean time a little something I found funny.
My site will be at: http://pages.teamintraining.org/sc/mcmudrun11/mgilberdum Now I know this may not be the smartest thing I have done but they didn't have to point it out.  The coordinator laughed when I pointed out that it kinda looked like my address was mgilbert dumb.  The site will hopefully be live soon, don't worry you will definitely know when that is.  Truthfully it is live now but I am not on a team yet so there is still a chance I won't be participating and blah, blah, blah.  We won't think about that :)

Busy day. I talked about exercising, does that count?

It may be time to start panicking and
questioning my decision making process
Tonight I went to talk to some Team in Training representative for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I have been interested in participating in one of their events for awhile and I know a couple of people who have done it and had a great time. I have looked into it before but the commitment was something that I was not sure at the time I could make. This event is held at 'home' so much easier to plan and hopefully execute. Should a team come together I will very shortly be hitting everyone up for a donation. :) After the meeting I headed back downtown to go listen to Frank Warren speak along with D.S. If you don't know who Frank is, he is the "author" of the Post Secrets books. Author is in quotations because Frank is really the keeper of our secrets and we are the authors through the postcards sent in. As he spoke tonight he mentioned several times that when people read the books or look at the website we find others with our secrets. In fact at the end of the night, during the open mic portion, someone shared one of mine.
So busy night, busy week. Tomorrow I go and pick up donations for the Silent Auction portion of our WineTasting event on Friday. I am very excited and nervous as it is our first event. So between work, the running around, class, etc. I still have to find time to actually run. Wish me luck with that!

Putting the Fun in Fundraising!

My local alumnae chapter is having a wine tasting fundraiser coming up on Friday, February 11 from 7:30pm - 9:30pm.  This will be held at Sam's Fine Wines & Spirits located at 5050 Sunset Blvd, Lexington, SC.
This event will be benefiting our local Children's Miracle Network affiliate, Palmetto Health Children's Hospital.  Tickets can be purchased for $20 per person or $30 per couple and will be available for purchase at Sam's Fine Wines & Spirits or any alumnae member. Refreshments, as well as wine of course, will be provided in addition to a silent auction. This event would be a great outing for Valentine's Day weekend or a Girl's (or Boy's) Night Out as well as raising money for an amazing cause! Feel free to email columbiaphimualumnae@gmail.com (or me :) )for further information or questions.
